Just a Sample

We've been pretty busy around here lately. This is just a sample of the many things we've been doing.... visiting the zoo (and the new Adventure Dinosaur Exhibit), playing on our new playground, picnicing at the lake.... etc.

But, mostly we've just been hanging out here at home. Adam and Gene have been working around the clock! We have 2 new doors and many that now actually open and close (amazing, I know!), 4 new windows on order and soon to be installed, and an AWESOME new playground that has been thoroughly enjoyed already. Patty has been busy keeping the boys busy. They've been reading countless stories, doing projects, cleaning up the yard and just helping with so many chores. I have really just had a lot of time to just relax and work on some of my own little projects. It's been super nice!

It has been unbearably hot many days, so we've been just trying to keep as cool as possible throughout the day. However, Gene and Patty have been rattled awake on numerous nights with serious lightning and thunder crashes that light up the whole sky. One evening we even got to experience our first tornado siren.... those things are LOUD!!! It's amazing how fast it can go from bright and sunny to pouring rain.

Tomorrow is our big day... hopefully the day we meet our sweet little girl. I am really looking forward to that moment. Please be in prayer for all of us throughout the day... and I am sure we'll have pictures to follow a.s.a.p.

Another Update...

We made another addition to our boys' room.... a bookcase bench. Sam and Seth have TONS of books but nowhere to put them (they are currently being stored in boxes in the centipede closet in the basement. Soooo, I put Adam to work once again.... he's so amazing!!! He built a beautiful bookshelf for them and we painted and lacquered (couldn't hide all that pretty wood grain) it red to match the decor. Then, I made a little quilt top to protect the bench seat and make it a little more comfy. We found button snaps to keep it in place... those things are great (another new favorite crafting tool for me :) yay!!!). I am just loving the transformation... it's really beginning to look like a little boy room, without going overboard.

Exhaustion

I've been talking a lot about being exhausted the last several weeks... I have definitely been exhausted most of the time. However, today I'm thinking someone else around here might just be a little exhausted as well.

Aaron has had a rough few weeks. He's been teething for a while and all 4 of his molars have finally popped thru... thank goodness! But, then he came down with a yucky cough and sore throat. I think he's finally starting to feel better....

BUT then, Seffers started coughing yesterday. He didn't sleep well last night (woke up crying and begging for a bandaide ~for his toe, he tripped on the sidewalk and got a pretty good gouge in it yesterday~ and cough medicine). Poor guy! Anyway, tonight at dinner I went into my room to check my email really quick and came back to find the little guy completely out in his macaroni.... NOW THAT'S EXHAUSTED!!! I put him on the couch, and he didn't budge for 3 hours... just in time for bedtime. I really hope he gets some good sleep and can get over this nasty cough... He's got to get better because Grandpa and Grandma are coming to play this week!

Adam will be exhausted tomorrow as well. He is on call tonight, and it has been pretty steady for him so far. Hopefully, it will slow down a little so he can get a few hours of rest in tonight. We are really looking forward to Thursday... his vacation begins then and lasts thru the end of June. He's worked so hard this year saving up all of his vacation, so he's really in need of a good break.

As for me... I've just been busy doing little things. There are so many projects I need to finish before we add another little one to the mix. I am excited about having this little girl, but a little nervous too. I feel like I am not going to be able to fully enjoy the baby I've already got... Aaron is still such a baby, and the most adorable one at that! He's always been such a Mommy's boy, but recently he's become quite attached to his Daddy as well. He is so thrilled each evening when Adam gets home. He runs to the door and makes sure that he is the first to give Daddy a hug. They have their own little routine of running into the bedroom to change and wrestling on the bed for a few minutes. If Adam is ever preoccupied and neglects to grab him on his way to the room, Aaron lets him know about it. :)

Anyway, I've got the night to myself so I'm gonna turn on some random movie, relax, and fold some laundry... there's a neverending pile on my couch. Hope you all have a wonderful night!

First Installment

Okay, so I've been working on our boys room, and these are the first little changes we've made....

We found this headboard and footboard at a garage sale for $15 (yay!) and brought it home, sanded it, and painted it. LOVE IT! Now... if only I could find another that somewhat matches it for Seth.

On top of the bed is a duvet cover I made for Seth (Yes, it is Sam's bed with Seth's blanket). Seth wanted a red cover, but Sam wanted blue (which I've not yet started on). Sooo, we just borrowed it for the sake of the photo. Sam's blanket will look just like this {only in blue}.... and Seth's bed will (hopefully) look somewhat like this {only in blue}. Hope that's not confusing you - because I am totally confused just writing it :)

Next are the silhouettes (my favorite part!). I made them out of fabric (because I want them to last a long time and paper seems to fade a lot more) and did the iron-on stuff, which was super easy. And, I got the frames at a garage sale for $2 for all 4... woohoo! And of course, I just painted them. :) So... the grand total for the sihouettes and boat picture = $8. Can't beat that!

There are still a few more things in the works, but that's really all I have to show for now... I've been working on some things for the baby girl room too. But, that's for another post.

Movin On!

Yay for Sam! He's movin' on... to 1st Grade! I am very proud of him. He has learned so much this year. I think he really enjoyed each subject... except for handwriting. His favorites were math and phonics. He graduated last Saturday, along with 3 other homeschool kindergarteners at our church. They got up and said Psalm 118:1 and told us what each was thankful for. Sam was thankful that his Mom was his teacher. Then they repeated Colossians 23:12 (I think) and then told us what they would like to be when they grow up. Sam would like to be a policeman and an artist. Hmmm... we'll see what he says next month :) I love how they constantly come up with something new. Finally, they recited a poem about growing and learning. It was very cute and I was so proud of Sam for memorizing it so well. I think we really underestimate the abilities of a child.

Anyway, for now we are just enjoying our summer... doing very little handwriting, and loving it!

Sorry about the pictures... it was pretty dark in the auditorium so I wasn't able to get very good ones.

Holy Hill

We went on a little adventure this evening.... to Holy Hill. We need to use up some gas (from our car) so we decided to pack up some dinner and take a drive. We are having some problems with our gas sensor (or something like that?) so we're getting it fixed on Friday, but in order to do that it has to be pretty close to empty. Anyways, there's this huge church about a half hour north of us that is set on a hill... yes, a hill in Wisconsin! Several people have told us that we just had to see this place, so we thought we'd check it out. It was neat, but not really my thing I guess. The drive made it worth it. It was a very pretty drive up a windy, hilly road... sorta reminded me of home... of course the elevation was probably a couple thousand feet lower at least and it was very green :).

Just north of Holy Hill is a small part of the Kettle Moraine State Park. We did a little wading in the lake, playing at the playground, chasing a turtle, eating (of course!), and throwing rocks into the lake (double of course! how could we not with 3 boys!). It was so fun to get out and enjoy some beautiful, cool evening weather. We still have half a tank of gas, so we just might have to do this again tomorrow.
